General - FAQ

Q: How fast is the setup process?

A: Normally within 30-60 minutes after you've signed up online. Once configured on our gateway, you will receive an email containing instructions about the MX record change.

Q: Once the MX record has been changed, when will the filtering start?

A: The bulk of your email will instantly be filtered once your DNS server has updated. Most DNS servers update within 2-4 hours. No mail is lost (or delayed) during the update.

Q: Can I review the spam messages that are trapped?

A: Yes. Your messages are held in your Spam-Viewer. We will provide you with a username and password where you can review your trapped messages.

Q: Can I whitelist or blacklist addresses (i.e. allow or block)?

A: Yes. You can add email addresses or domains to your whitelist or blacklist thru the Spam-Filter Control Panel.

A: Yes, you can have unlimited domains (per customer) for 30-Day Free Trials!

Q: What happens when the free trial ends?

A: Your trial account will automatically turn into a regular paid subscription account. No action is required when the trial ends unless you decide to cancel.

Q: What if a legitimate message gets incorrectly trapped in the Spam-Viewer?

A: You can "release" any message from the Spam-Viewer. The trapped message would then be sent directly to the intended recipient.

Q: Are there any contracts or commitments?

A: No. This is a month-to-month service with no long term commitment. You can cancel at anytime without penalty.

Q: Are there any setup fees or hidden charges?

A: No. There are no setup fees, configuration fees, annual fees, support fees, period.

Q: How do I setup service?

A: Setup requires only one step, which is to contact your DNS Provider and have them change your MX (Mail eXchanger) record. That's it, you're done! Once the MX record has been updated, your mail will automatically pass thru our service. We'll hold the spam messages and only pass the legitimate messages to your mailserver. You will continue to collect your mail just the same way as you are now. No changes to your workstations or servers.

Q: Do we need to maintain a list of our users on the spam-filter?

A: No. You are not required to maintain a list of your valid users. However the option is available and we strongly encourage that you do. Please note: The spam-filter will not send NDR's (Non Deliverable Receipts) unless you maintain your valid users. To add your valid users, log into your Spam-Filter Control Panel. Click the desired domain, then click on the "Valid Users" Tab.

Support - FAQ

Q: How do you handle .Zip attachments and restricted scripts files?

A: Spam-Filter.com protects against malware which often propagates from executable attachments. In order to combat against email malware attacks, spam-filter.com removes all scripts and executable file attachments, even if the executable file is hidden inside of a ZIP file. If an executable file attachment is detected, the attachment will be removed but the message will be allowed to pass thru to the end user.

Q: Why is there little or no spam in my Spam-Viewer?

A: (botNet) SPAM is now rejected by our servers and will not be visible in your Spam-Viewer. Only 'questionable' SPAM is kept for your review. Zombie (botNet) SPAM accounts for 90% (and in some cases up-to 100%) of all spam messages. We hope this will make your experience more enjoyable if ever needing to review your spam messages.

Q: I forgot the username and password for my Control Panel.

A: From the Spam-Filter Control Panel Login page, simply click "Forgot Username/Password" link to retrieve your login credentials by email. An email is sent to the Primary Contact on file.

Q: My Spam-Viewer will not open?

A: You must have port 3000 open on your firewall/router.

Q: What if my mailserver goes down or is offline?

A: We will keep retrying to deliver your mail for 7 days. We act as a backup mailserver for your mailserver.

Q: I've changed the IP address of my mailserver...

A: If you change the IP address of your mailserver or moved to a new email hosting company, you will need to change the "Forwarding Address" in your Spam-Filter Control Panel. Login to your Control Panel, click on the desired domain name, then click on the "Forward Address" Tab.

Q: How do I add additional domains to my existing account?

A: To add additional domains, log into your Spam-Filter Control Panel. On the first page (main page) click on the "Add Domains" button and follow the instructions.

Q: What are your sending Gateway IP Addresses?

To prevent spam and viruses from bypassing the Spam-Filter, it's recommended (but not mandatory) to lock down the firewall of your mailserver. This means limiting SMTP (PORT:25) traffic at the firewall level to only allow connections from Spam-Filter.com IP addresses. (209.213.83.0/24) AND (74.118.76.0/24) AND (50.202.38.0/24).
